Perky Pea

Description

Perky Pea and his fellow peas were surprised when their pod burst. They landed on the cold earth in the dark, and felt cold and vulnerable without the experience of being held tight together inside the pod case. They were scared, and didn’t know what to do. As time passed they came up against events that were strange to them and these made them very frightened. Each time the peas asked one another, “What do we do now?” Somehow Perky always managed to come up with an answer. Was Perky right? Did they survive? This early reader for 5-9s encourages the reader to persevere, and the story can be used with a group to discuss this moral. The story of Perky Pea also enforces nature’s life cycle.
